The Breast Cancer Supportive Care Foundation (BCSCF) is a federally registered charity established in December 2005. A volunteer Board of Directors, elected at a public annual general meeting, oversees the operations of the Breast Cancer Supportive Care Foundation. The Foundation is a federally registered charity #81617 6945 RR0001, an Alberta Incorporated Society #5112027767 and an Alberta registered charity.
The Foundation complies with all municipal, provincial and federal laws that govern a charitable organization’s conduct and practices. The Foundation is guided by a well-qualified and dedicated Board of Directors including:
Peter Cheung, President
Peter is currently the Managing Director of RedRock Capital Partners Corporation, an investment management and financial advisory company. Peter co-founded RedRock in 2008 to target Asian investors making investments in private oil and gas companies in Alberta. Prior to joining RedRock full time in October, 2008, Peter was Vice President and Treasure of Pengrowth Corporation, one of the largest and highest quality energy trusts in North America. Before that, Peter held the position of Vice President, Energy Group, RBC Capital Markets and was a Senior Auditor at Collins Barrow Chartered Accountants. With a Bachelor of Commerce and a Chartered Accountant designation, Peter brings a wide range of finance and accounting experience to BCSCF as well as several community based leadership experiences. Peter is also the Treasurer and Director with Connections Counselling and Consulting Foundation, a Calgary based non-for-profit organization that provides support for parents with developmental disabilities.
Karen Hammond. Past President; Chair of Nominating Committee
Karen Hammond is President of Hammond & Associates Inc., a consulting firm specializing in workforce learning and development and performance management. Karen has a Master’s Degree in Education and more than 24 years experience as an adult educator and consultant. Her expertise in research, project management, instructional design and program development as well as her experience as a patient of Breast Cancer Supportive Care has equipped her to serve well as President of the Foundation and Chair of the Nominating Committee.
Sandra Rosano, Vice President
Sandra currently is the General Manager for Clouderwerx Data Solutions,
an organization that specializes in application service hosting and
secure data storage for medical practitioners. Sandra started her career
in the public sector with Industry Canada, specifically in the delivery
of internet technology programs to remote Canadians. Sandra has since
moved to the private sector focusing on the development of channel
marketing programs and operations management.
Raina Wall, Director
Raina brings to BCSCF a range of business and operations management experience focused on all aspects of building new ventures and start up companies. Her background in hospitality and tourism management combined with a Masters in Business Administration brings a high level of skill and talent to BCSCF. Currently, she is employed as a Project Manager with Bellstar Hotels & Resorts a resort management and development firm.
Hilary Moore, Director; Chair Marketing Committee
An interest in gaining volunteer and board experience propelled Hilary to join BSCF in May 2008. Hilary brings with her a diverse range of marketing and business managment experiences, both from the advertising and client-side sectors. A Calgary native, Hilary's background is in real estate, hospitality and tourism marketing. Hilary is currently employed as the Director of Marketing at Bellstar Hotels & Resorts and in her spare time is working on her Master of Arts from the University of Alberta.
Wendy Noonan, Director; Chair Human Resources Committee
Wendy is currently Director of Human Resources for One Earth Farms, a farming corporation. Prior to joining One Earth Farms on a part-time basis, Wendy was Chief Talent Officer and Director of Human Resources for Pengrowth Corporation, one of the largest and highest quality energy trusts in North America. Wendy contributes over 20 years of Human Resources and Administrations skills to BCSCF. Wendy has developed positive employee relationships to meet the needs of growing and changing organizations, formulated compensation philosophies and strategies, remuneration and incentive arrangements to remain competitive, and developed innovative employee relations policies and management practices that enabled corporations to attract, develop and retain a highly motivated, dedicated and effective workforce.
Stan Stawowski, Director
As the managing partner of Stawowski McGill and Partners, Stan contributes over 25 years of experience as a Chartered Accountant in private accounting practice to BCSCF. Stan has been a key member of the BCSCF Board, assisting with establishing financial policies and best practices accounting procedures.
Marguerite Stawowski, Director
Known and respected throughout Calgary for her leadership in communications Marguerite provides BCSCF with expertise in publicity and promotion. Before retiring in 2008, Marguerite had been the principal of Rivard Design for over 20 years designing and publishing annual reports for organizations ranging from international oil and gas companies to small charitable organizations. Marguerite has also served in various capacities in the charitable sector mostly notably her long time association with Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse.
Dianna Harrison, DirectorDianna has been involved in fashion retailing for over 20 years. Dianna created Ducks & Company, the Calgary fashion boutique, in 1991 and expanded that business to three stores prior to her sale of the business and retirement in 2007. Through Duck’s, Dianna was involved with organizing fashion show fundraisers benefiting the Breast Cancer Supportive Care Foundation and the Heart & Stroke Foundation. In 2004, Ducks adopted BCSCF as their benefiting charity and “Fashion with Compassion” has since become BCSCF’s primary fundraising event.
John Cameron, Director
John’s diverse education and experience includes having worked at the Tom Baker Cancer Center researching patterns of reoccurrence rates in breast cancer patients treated with Tamoxifen. This work was influential in him joining BCSCF in 2009. John is currently the Creative Director for White Iron Inc. and has a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Biochemistry as well as a Graduate degree in media. He brings with him over 10 years of experience in the fields of marketing and broadcast television.
Lynn McNeil, Director
Lynn brings to the Foundation over 30 years of corporate and consulting experience in stakeholder engagement, community investment, social and environmental responsibility as well as project management and interest based negotiations. She has worked primarily in the Energy Sector with companies such as Canadian Natural Resources, TransAlta and Alliance Pipeline. She is currently a Director with McNeil Consulting and is working with an exciting start-up company proposing to build an environmentally safe and cost effective Underground Coal Gasification Project in Central Alberta.
Gelaine Pearman, Director
Gelaine brings to the BCSCF Board an in-depth and extensive knowledge of the healthcare system. She has a BSc in Nursing and a MHSc in Health Care Administration from the University of Toronto. Gelanie has worked in Critical Care and Emergency units for 10 years in a variety of positions, taught Nursing at George Brown College in Toronto, worked in Administration at the Foothills Hospital before becoming a Director of Patient Care for Critical Care, Maternal Newborn, Emergency, and Trauma. She was involved in a number of planning committees during the Klein health care restructuring in Alberta, has done a variety of volunteer work and served on the Board of the Calgary Family Services Society.
Lynn McNeil, Director
Lynn brings over 30 years of corporate and consulting experience in stakeholder engagement, community investment, social and environmental responsibility as well as project management and interest based negotiations to the Foundation. Melissa Cook, Corporate Secrtary
Melissa began working with the BCSCF in 2008 and currently works at the Calgary office of a large national law firm in the corporate and securities group. Melissa obtained her law degree from the University of Calgary in 2007. While attending law school, Melissa also worked for a junior oil and gas reporting issuer. Before pursuing a career in law, Melissa obtained a bachelor of commerce in finance and a bachelor of arts in communications from the University of Calgary. During this time, she worked for BMO Financial Group for a period of four years in various areas including recruitment, corporate communications and employee training. Following this, she obtained a master of business administration from Simon Fraser University.
Sanjay Naicker, Officer; Treasurer
Sanjay is a Chartered Accountant who has worked exclusively in the tax planning and the tax compliance area for the past six years. He has completed the CICA In-Depth Tax Course and is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation. Sanjay’s tax experience includes tax and estate planning for high net worth individuals, corporate reorganizations and advising on purchase/sale and other transactions.
Dr. Ardythe Taylor, Officer
As a physician and founder of BCSCF, Ardythe has a strong passion and dedication to optimize medical care for breast cancer patients. She has experienced the challenges of breast cancer first hand, initially with her mother and subsequently through her own diagnosis. Her education and experience in specialized breast cancer care follow 14 years as a family physician in private practice as well as participation as a member on numerous committees and boards in both cancer and spiritual health care. Dr. Taylor works 4 days/week at BCSCF serving as the Medical Director and seeing individual patients. She is primarily responsible for leading the medical service program delivery and content, orientation of new physicians and specialists, and directing new projects and collaborative activities.
Kate McBrearty, Officer
Kate is a senior strategist and change agent providing consultation in
organizational development to not-for-profit organizations. With over 25
years experience in marketing, communications, fund development and
non-profit management, she takes a thoughtful, team oriented approach to
her responsibilities. Some notable prior positions include: former
Executive Director, Autism Ontario, and Director, Marketing and
Communications at Mount Royal College (now University). Kate is
primarily responsible for leading BCSCF’s capital, project and
administrative resources to achieve the organization’s vision.
